This is my first attempt at using Typepad's photo album feature. So far I think I like it and may use that method for blogging large groups of photos in the future.
Highs and lows of the trip:
♥ Despite the frustrations of traveling with kids, everybody had a good time.
♥ FABULOUS restaurant: Casby's Sea Grill at 3316 Atlantic Avenue
♥ The Children's Museum of Virginia in Portsmouth. Inexpensive and very very fun.
♥ Our hotel (Courtyard Mariott 37th Street) was perfect. Good location, very nice suite.
♥ Jungle Golf and the attached arcade. Cheesy but fun.
♠ Oh my goodness, whiny four year old and tantruming toddler who didn't want to do anything the grownups planned and barely ate anything the whole week.
♠ Maybe not bad, but so-so: the usually lovely Virginia Marine Science Museum is undergoing major renovations. Wait to visit until they're done. There is still lots to see and do, but much of it is out of commission and the museum feels overcrowded with visitors. If you do go, go early in the day.
♠ Disenchanted with blah food at old favorite restaurants Mi Hogar (4201 Granby Street, Norfolk) and Waterman's Surfside Grill (5th Street & Atlantic Avenue, Virginia Beach - still a great location, though)
♣ Dan forgot to pack underwear or pajamas. The up side is that this necessitated a trip to Lynnhaven Mall, and the kids loved the play area and carousel. The down side is that we discovered an unfortunate tendency in myself to say "underpants," which apparently he really hates. UnderWEAR, underWEAR.
♣ Captain John's Crab House at 3420 Atlantic Avenue. Heinous, dreary little buffet place. Tragically and almost comically limp atmosphere and food. I haven't been someplace that bad in years. Don't ever go. ♣ Both of us reacted to the kids' sunscreen. Which is worse, sunburn or hives?
