Dan and I often get too focused on the negatives of outings/traveling with kids and neglect to just plain get out and do it. Neither of us likes car travel with kids, or the mealtime and sleeping arrangement logistical hassle, or the frustrations of planning something fun that ends up not being fun due to cranky kidness. I was reminded of our reluctance lately when Sarah and I went to see Mamma Mia!, during which one particular ABBA song prodded me:
What happened to the wonderful adventures
The places I had planned for us to go
Well some of that we did
But most we didn't
And why I just don't know
So, when my friend Angela told me on Thursday that she was going to be in Virginia Beach Aug 1-9, I said, why not? and by that evening, threw together a plan to spend the weekend hanging out with her family there. We went from no weekend plans to frolicking on the beach in under 2 days. Awesome. Our families had a great time together, especially Griffin and her 5 y/o, Reese. I'm tossing some photos in the summer '08 album and will hopefully get more (and better shots) from her after she returns home to CO.
