In preparation for the Monument Ave 10K, Sarah and I hit Roadrunner today for new shoes - hers were worn out and I, shamefully, did not own a pair of exercise-worthy walking shoes, living as I do in my old Skechers. This was my first experience with a pro shoe shop and it was surprisingly fun - you do not select shoes for yourself, you do some walking or jogging for the staff member helping you and let them know your needs, and they bring appropriate shoes to you to try. No getting attached to the pretty purple striped shoes on the wall, if they're right for you, they bring them to you. I got no such pretty purple shoes, the cutest thing I tried on had acid alien green details and didn't feel right. What felt right was white/mint pair. Oddly, this was the easiest athletic shoe fitting I've ever had, it took the work out of making decisions.
New shoes in hand (on foot?), and with only a week before the 10K, S and I immediately set about breaking them in with a 3 mile walk from my house through Windsor Farms. Gorgeous walk, lovely company, I should do this more often! Our route is below - L is our house, where we started and finished. F is the gorgeous historic Virginia House, next door to Agecroft Hall. This coming Friday I will be walking with Griff's class to Va House for a field trip. Somehow I think it will be a different experience, walking a mile each way with 25 kindergarteners.
Edited to add: DUDE, that embedded map is so cool! You can zoom in and out, grab and drag it, and click on the locations!
