There was a lot of drudgery today, but also a lot to feel gratified about. I experimented with the zoom effect in-camera and some textures in PhotoShop and came up with this portrait of my little friend Alastair Aberfeldy. Getting in my zone with the camera is deeply satisfying; I love learning new tricks. I'm not sure that I have a lot of use for zoom effect at the moment, but it's nice to know that I have at least a basic understanding of how to create them. (Short version: zoom during long exposure.)
More gratification: after viewing a lot of wedding photos lately, I decided to try shooting jewelry, with moderate success. This afternoon, I was available when a friend needed help, which always feels good. I had - and fulfilled - a sudden yen for French onion dip and chips. Mmmm. I realized once and for all that I don't really like Cheerwine, and that I really do love root beer. I'm getting alone time this evening. Not the most productive of days, but gratifying in its own way.
Griff's gratification was closely tied to my own snackfood craving. His drawing today illustrates a pivotal moment of the fateful grocery shopping trip today, in which he asked his father for Pirate's Booty and received an affirmative reply. I like the inclusion of his brothers in the shopping cart, and his use of profile. The mouths are small because they're talking. :o)
I think today is the first time we've used a word contributed by my friend Andrea. Thank you!
What simple stuff is gratifying to you?
