Griff and I collaborated on this one. Actually, the idea came from Dan and Reese got in on the photo shoot, so it was nearly a whole-family effort.
By the way, I'm pretty happy with the results I can get with just a floor lamp and a piece of black microfleece, and a subject who barely gave me 20 frames before announcing that he was done.
Back to precociousness - I was reading something about child development yesterday (which, of course, I cannot find to link now)(wait, found it), and it said something to the effect of "six-to-seven year olds are beginning to accept that babies develop in the womb." And I was all WTF?!? I wasn't aware that children ever didn't accept this fact, and even supposing that most children don't live in families that are totally blunt about pregnancy and childbirth, I didn't think most kids got to age six or seven before they understood what all those ladies with big bellies had under their shirts. Tell me, when did your children understand that babies grow inside a mommy's body?
I wonder how much our opinion of the precociousness of something is based on social norms, as opposed to actual developmental norms. Yesterday's reading came back to me today while my older sons were eagerly poring over a catalog from the Anatomical Chart Company. Anatomy and physiology are something we talk about all the time, with gusto (and guts!). Griff and I are both lusting after a Functional Francis. Is he precocious, or is this just par for the course, given parents with interests like ours?
