I'm not going to tell you yesterday's word of the day (which was taken yesterday, no cheating) just yet. First, a story:
Griff and I forgot to choose Friday's WOTD on Thursday night, like we usually do. When we forget, we usually pick it in the morning, but we forgot to do that, too. So around 10 in the morning, I realized our error and pulled a word out of the hat on my own.
Sometime later that afternoon, I finally picked up the camera and found something to photograph. I had hoped to have afternoon time to edit, resize, post, and blog it, because I had plans to attend a school dance with Griffin in the evening and knew I might not get to it later, but unfortunately, the afternoon didn't go as planned. I hoped that I would get to it after dinner. But then I didn't, so I put it off until after the dance, thinking it was likely I'd be home before 9 and could do my edits and be done before 9:30.
The dance was a lot of fun and Griff and I weren't ready to leave between 8 and 8:30. We dragged our feet until the school cafeteria was actually being swept. Then we dragged our feet some more and hung out with friends outside. Until almost 10PM.
Clearly I wasn't going to handle the WOTD photo then. Too tired. It would have to wait for the morning.
When morning came, I slept in. Then I got breakfast. Then noodled around with some other stuff. I would work with my pictures later, when the kids left the house. Except they never did. At some point Griff tackled yesterday's word. As I type these words, I haven't yet scanned his drawing. It is 3:06 PM.
The word of the day for January 22, 2010 was:
I kid you not. Griff laughed when he thought about what it meant and the fact that he was doing it a day late.
In case you can't read it, he typed "I'm procrastinate to do this work" and drew a picture of a "procrastinated" playdate that we've been talking about planning for a month, finally planned, then had to cancel due to illness, and now have been talking about rescheduling for another week. I really mean to reschedule it. I just need to pick a day. Maybe I can call her mom tomorrow?
While I'm posting this, I am procrastinating from getting the following things done:
putting away the light-up polar bears that are still on the lawn
sending a package to my grandmother and my husband's grandmother
washing my new bedsheets
researching contracts and insurance
hunting down a flash and diffuser
writing the school newsletter
starting the reading for next Tuesday's book group
cleaning off my dresser
de-grunging ancient cake from a pan
planning the garden
calling shrub removal guys
raking fallen cypress debris in the front yard
bugging Griff to write thank-you notes
writing some of my own
framing and hanging prints
This may or may not be the best time to tell you that today's word probably won't be posted until late tomorrow. I have every intention of catching up. Really.
