This is the one and only word I've put into the hat. I came across it a while ago and thought it was the best word ever for referring to too much fuss in either the decorative or angsty sense.
Master Gryphon up there was the subject of emotional foofaraw before being bedecked in bejeweled foofaraw. Age 7 has a lot to do with massively moody outbursts over what seem to adults like trivial things. Both the jewels and the mood swings have me revisiting the idea of one person's overkill being another's valid experience and appropriate response.
Griff's take on overdecoration drove this home further. He represented stained glass by taping colored paper onto my bedroom window, then photographed it. He explained that to him, a beautifully decorated church would be better without the stained glass, because it's just too much decoration and detracts from the rest of it. As a lover of stained glass, I'm going to have to keep this in mind next time I'm in an ornate cathedral. What constitutes "foof" to me?
While taking my photo I was wearing silver ballet flats. A few years ago I would have considered that terribly foofy in an old-lady kind of way. I was also wearing a sparkly headband with my otherwise very casual outfit and messy bun. Is foofaraw - visually or emotionally - ever anything but subjective?
