Last night I came home, expecting that the power would be back on. No such luck. I went to bed (not much else you can do, alone in the dark) and woke up to the blank face of the clock. Went out to get food, stayed out of the too-hot airless house until the afternoon. All told, no power for 21 hours. I can't bear to think of how much food I threw out today after the power came back on.
Yet tonight, I'm entertaining friends, bare fridge or no. Here's to friends who understand and are happy to accept some chips, nuts, and dried fruit.
