You'd think by now I would have ceased to be amazed by new creative media, and yet there I was, today, enraptured with something new and unexpected. Griffin, who has been asking almost constantly if I have anything for him to "destroy" (dismantle), asked to take apart the curtain/blind hardware that I had removed from the living room last weekend. Sure, go for it, kid! Next thing I know, Reese and Xander each have a loop of metal beaded chain - the kind that is used to open and close blinds. They strung it around themselves like jewelry, reveled in the sound of the beads hitting the wood floors, and then we started to create images with it, shaping the outline of the loop on the bare floor into sharks, octopi, boats. Five minutes before, these possibilities had never even occurred to us, and now here we were building competence with this new medium.
