The top 10 videos for Birth Matters Virginia's national context have been announced! I'm working my way through them and so far am blown away by the work these videographers have done. Portrayals of birth in the media are so skewed, often either demonizing the medical system or scoffing at anything "natural," but his group of videos does a very powerful thing: communicate the everyday nature of birth and the need for every family to have information and support for the decisions they make - whatever those decisions may be. I'm excited to see such a rational yet moving treatment of this subject. No proselytization! No scare tactics! Not too ooshy-gooshy! Even if you think you've seen it all, even if you're done adding people to your own family, give these short documentaries a look and leave your comments.
Best of luck to all the entries!

Update 8/14/2010: Several of the links above are no longer completely functional. At least two videos have been removed by the YouTube user who originally posted them, and another two have been marked "private" by their owners. Birth advocacy often mixes private moments with public activism, and I'm grateful that these families shared their experiences, even if only for a short time. Thanks to Marci for calling my attention to these missing videos.
